Are You Struggling to Adapt After an Amputation?

  • Are you experiencing severe “Phantom Limb Pain” (feeling pain in the missing limb)?
  • ย Is your residual limb (stump) too sensitive, swollen, or stiff to fit a prosthesis?
  • Are you afraid of falling while trying to walk with your new artificial leg?
  • ย Do you feel extreme weakness in your core and remaining limbs?
  • You cannot simply attach a prosthesis and walk. Without proper pre-prosthetic conditioning, your muscles will atrophy, and your remaining joints will suffer from severe overuse. You need a structured clinical rehabilitation program to desensitize your stump, rebuild your core strength, and retrain your brain to balance with a prosthetic limb.

Your Journey Back to Independence

  • Our rehabilitation program is divided into three critical clinical phases:
  • Post-Surgical Phase (Healing & Pain Relief): We focus on wound healing, shaping the residual limb, preventing joint contractures (stiffness), and aggressively treating phantom limb pain using modern therapeutic modalities.
  • ย Pre-Prosthetic Phase (Strengthening): We build massive strength in your core, hips, and remaining limbs to compensate for the missing segment. We teach you safe wheelchair transfers and hopping techniques.
  • Prosthetic Phase (Gait Training): Once your artificial limb is fitted, we teach you how to put it on, balance your weight, and walk with a natural gait (rhythm) to prevent limping and lower back pain.

Frequently Asked Questions About Amputee Rehab

What is Phantom Limb Pain and can physiotherapy help?

Phantom limb pain is a real sensation of pain coming from the body part that was removed. It happens because the brain's nerve pathways are confused. We use highly effective techniques like Mirror Therapy and TENS (electrical stimulation) to rewire the brain and significantly reduce this pain.

When should I start physical therapy after an amputation?

Physical therapy should ideally start within a few days after surgery (even while you are in the hospital) to prevent your joints from permanently locking up (contractures) and to ensure the stump heals in the correct shape for a prosthesis.

Do you help with walking with a prosthetic leg?

Yes. Prosthetic gait training is one of our core specialties. We teach you how to bear weight safely, balance, climb stairs, and walk without an unnatural limp.

How long does it take to walk with a prosthesis?

Every patient is different. Typically, the stump takes 6 to 8 weeks to heal enough to fit a prosthesis. After fitting, intensive gait training can have you walking comfortably within a few weeks to a few months.
